Rural counties throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are working to reduce expenses of their respective county Children and Youth Services agencies. Because of this, many smaller counties work to provide their own foster care in-house. However, there is always need for an outside agency placement for children who are not able to be housed within an existing Children and Youth Services resource parent's home for a variety of reasons. Because of this dynamic, there is an ongoing shortage of available foster care agency homes within the county, and often placement is done several counties away, which reduces the legitimate ability for the child's family to be involved in their care and limits reintegration efforts. LifeSpan Family Services seeks to place children closer to home and provide each child with the resource family best suited for his or her needs.
